Bakhtiari

This is a hand-knotted Bakhtiari from western tribal regions, approximately 70 years old. The piece measures a substantial 10x14 feet and shows the classic garden compartment layout this region is known for—individual panels filled with stylized flowers, boteh, and geometric motifs, all organized around a central medallion system in deep navy and rust tones.

The colors show natural dye characteristics: rich brick reds, indigo blues, warm golds, and ivory highlights throughout the field and borders. The wool has that dense, heavy-bodied feel typical of tribal Bakhtiari weaving. From the photo, the pile appears relatively even with honest wear consistent with age—no threadbare spots visible, though you can see this has been lived with and used.

The borders run multiple guards with repeating geometric florals in navy and rust. Fringe at the bottom end looks complete and original. This type of larger format Bakhtiari doesn't show up as often as the smaller sizes.

At 10x14, this works in a proper dining room or large living space where you want that traditional tribal look. Asking $1200 for a 70-year-old rug of this size is fairly priced for the current market.
