Antique serapi
- Size
- 5x7
Hand-knotted Serapi rug, over 100 years old, measuring approximately 5x7. This is a classic northwest weave with the geometric medallion and stylized florals typical of the region. The rust-red field shows an open layout with a central diamond medallion in coral, turquoise, and navy. Border has the characteristic bold design on dark blue ground with ivory accents.
Colors look naturally dyed—you can see the abrash variations in the field where the wool takes the dye differently. The wear is even across the surface, which is what you want to see in an antique piece this age. Pile is low but still intact, not worn through. Turquoise highlights are in good shape, which matters since that color is often the first to fade or deteriorate.
Weave is substantial with good wool quality. These Serapi rugs were made for durability, and this one has held up well over the century-plus. Fringe appears mostly complete from what's visible.
At 5x7, this works under a dining table or in a living room where you want some age and character without covering too much floor. The even wear means it's ready to use as-is.
